Greasweep Multi-Purpose Absorbent
Greasweep is a non-selective, multi-purpose absorbent, perfect for oil spill cleanup, spill control, and containing spills. 2. Product Identification Trade Name: “Greasweep”
Formula: Silicon Dioxide Amorphous Silica derived from Rice Husk
No detectible Crystalline silica. PEL calculation based on less than .1% Crystalline silica. PEL 5mg/m3 “A Nuisance Dust” CAS No. 93763-70-3. This product may contain Crystalline silica (quartz) at below detectable levels (<.1%); CAS No. 14808-60-7; OSHA PEL 0.1 mg/m3 (respirable). Date Prepared: 09/12/10
3. Hazards Identification
Emergency Overview: A solid white flake/powder material that is not flammable or combustible at room temperature. This product is non-toxic and does not pose an immediate hazard to the health of emergency response personnel or to the environment in an emergency situation.
Potential Health Effect: Acute exposure to iron oxide (Fe2O3) dust or fume can cause x-ray changes (siderois or iron pigmentation) in the lungs as a result of long term exposure. Siderois is a benign condition and is not associated with pulmonary fibrosis. Prolonged overexposure to carbon (coal) dust may result in pneumoconiosis. Skin tumors may be induced by products of coal combustion.
Potential Environmental Effects: The product has a high degree of intrinsic chemical stability and is relatively non-toxic in the environment. This material is normally stored in closed containers.
4. First Aid Measures
Eye Contact: The product is a powder and may be a mechanical irritant in the eyes. Flush eyes with water until irritation is removed.
Inhalation: Use adequate respiratory protection and remove victim from exposure area to fresh air. Medical oxygen may be administered, if available, where breathing is difficult. If irritation persists or cough or other symptoms develop, seek medical attention.
Ingestion: If swallowed, do not induce vomiting, consult a physician if necessary.
Skin Contact: Non-hazardous.
5. Fire Fighting Measures
This product is non-combustible and not an explosion hazard. Consult with the MSDS of the absorbed substance in the event of emergency.
6. Accidental Release Measures
Procedures for Cleanup: Control source of spillage if possible to do so safely. Sweep thoroughly to collect spilled material. Return uncontaminated spilled material to the process if possible. Place contaminated material in appropriate container for disposal, based on the MSDS of contaminate material. In all events, comply with all local, state and federal regulations.
